Burlington’s own Afro-Brazilian street percussion ensemble beckons the new year with pulsating rhythms on the shores of Lake Champlain. Dance instructor Shannon Kelly invites the entire family to stay warm as you shuffle and groove along with the band. Founded in 1995 to play at Burlington’s Discover Jazz Festival, Sambatucada is dedicated to bringing the energy and beauty of Afro-Brazilian street music and dance to Vermont. Patterned after Brazilian Carnival percussion orchestras, which can boast up to 300 musicians, Sambatucada is a smaller-scale version of the traditional community street bands found in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador da Bahia.

Programming at the Waterfront Park Stage is presented by The WaterWheel Foundation.
