Founded in 1993 by a local dancer Padma Gordon with the support of local drummers, Jeh Kulu has been fostering their love of West African drumming for 30 years. The troupe has traveled to Senegal and Guinea to deepen their understanding of the rhythms and culture, and over the years has amassed an impressive roster within the Jeh Kulu fold, including Musical and Artistic Directors Ismael Bangoura and Sidiki Sylla, master drummer, dancer, singer, and comedian Seny Daffe, and many committed American members as well. With the highest respect for the form and its significance in American heritage, Jeh Kulu continues to expand and share what they love with others.
Jeh Kulu Drum and Dance Theater will perform at 2:00 pm and again at 3:30 pm at the Waterfront. You can also catch them at Dwight + Nicole: Play the Future, at the Universalist Unitarian Church at 7:30 pm.
Programming at the Waterfront Park Stage is presented by The WaterWheel Foundation.
